Churchill War Rooms, Museum Activity Short Review, London

This will slightly different review to my others, since I was not in fact in London or the museum for a day out, but I actually had an interview, and if you want to know, no, unfortunately I didn’t get the job.

If you want to hear about my interview, here is a quick summary, it was a group interview, we had to do an activity as a group, where we had to say how to survive on the moon and what are the most important things we’d need, to the least, which was fun, then answer a question, that was it. I unfortunately didn’t give enough detail when I was talking about my previous customer service experience. I tried to get the role of retail and admission assistant, it didn’t work out.

Despite my nerves, I still enjoyed my time in London and I got there early and spent a long time in the museum and their café before my interview, so here is my review!

Cost: Luckily for me, since I am a part of the Museum Association due to my volunteer work, and I’m currently doing a course of theirs online, I was able to get into the exhibition free, however considering a lot of our museums in London are free, personally I think the tickets are fairly steep, for 16–64 years old, the price is 27.25 pounds. For a child, 5 to 15 years old, the price is 13.60 pounds, below 5 years old is free and senior age, 64 plus, is 24.50 pounds. You can also add voluntary donation as well.

Activity: So if you’re interested in Churchill, then this museum, of course, is for you. If you’re not, then unless you’re interested in war rooms, there isn’t anything else to keep you entertained, I’m afraid. The museum is a fairly long walk around, but the corridors do tend to be a bit narrow. However, of course, if you are interested in Churchill and the war rooms then this museum is very fascinating! I will say there is a café but nothing to shout about and there is not much choice, the sandwich I got was a bit soggy as well! I definitely recommend getting your food outside the museum, after or before the experience.

When you first get to the museum, there is a queue to get down into it and someone will point you to the ticket desk, there is a gift shop at the opposite to the ticket desk, but you’ll arrive at the gift shop, once you have walked through the museum. I decided to get a keyring, since I collect them! I talked a little bit about that on my daily prompt.

It can be quite crowded, though, so beware of that! You will also be handed an audio guide that will be give you the extra info you need and go around the museum at your own pace.

I quite enjoyed my time at the museum because I enjoyed learning about Churchill and the War Rooms, when I wasn’t panicking about my interview that is, haha!

This is some of St James Park, it was indeed snowing when I went, very pretty!

The entrance is fairly small, so you might miss it, but it’s on the corner of St James Park. St James Park is also very pretty, and I enjoyed walking around there, before I went into the museum. There is also a small café on the same corner, I haven’t gone to it, so I wouldn’t know if it’s any good or not! Here is the actual address Clive Steps, King Charles Street, London, SW1A 2AQ and also remember that it’s in a different location that the Imperial War museum, I almost didn’t realise that the Churchill War Museum and the Imperial War museum were different entities and almost ended up in the wrong location, so yeah don’t do that, ha!

Transport: Also, a quick note for getting around London, use the underground, its essentially the London Metro or London Subway but we call it the Underground or the Tube, those names are so normal for us, some people may get confused if you say metro or subway. Fun fact, tube, is sometimes pronounced Chube, yeah I don’t know where the ch sound comes from either. You can also use the bus, but I think the Underground is easy to use, especially if you have a contactless debit/credit card, instead of getting an Oyster card or a ticket, you can just tap your card to go through the barriers, it is really simple! There are also a lot of underground maps and arrows pointing in different directions, so you won’t get lost.

But for the love of god, unless you know what you are doing, don’t use a taxi or a car, the traffic can get so bad! It may even be quicker walking!

My Rating: Overall rating 7 out of 10, there’s only so much you can enjoy when the museum is about only one person, it did get a little tiring, and it did feel a bit claustrophobic at times, but you are in the war rooms, so what can you expect but of course if you are a big fan of Churchill you will of course, love it. I enjoyed strolling around at my own pace, and the audio guide is also very helpful.
