Chapter Fourteen, Granada 2023

Sit back and relax!

The Alhambra Palace, so beautiful!

I came out of my class feeling fairly confident for my next lesson, but then where was it? I wondered as the courtyard once again began to feel up with other students.

“Clare”

I looked around, to see the women who I had embarrassed myself by not recognising what is your name, in Spanish. I cringed internally as I thought about it, like you’re in a Spanish school and couldn’t understand that?

She asked me then, “Would you like to move down to a lower class?”

Ah, this must be about that moment, I thought, and I also thought about my class from before, I definitely didn’t feel like I was out of my depth, she must have assumed I didn’t know any basic sentences at all and wanted to put me at the lowest level ever! I thought to myself.

“No, no, I’m good” I said, while also wanting to cry, I promise I do know the extreme basics! I promise, that was a fluke when we met earlier, okay!? My monster chuckled, somehow being able to hide itself in my bum bag.

“She thinks you know nothing, and she’s probably a higher up, great first impression” It whispered.

She blinked at me and asked, “What was that?”

“Nothing, nothing” I said, giving my bum bag a squeeze and hearing the satisfying ouch from my monster.

She pointed me in the right direction to my next class and to my relief…at first, the teenagers didn’t seem to be there. I was now, in fact, the youngest in the class, which was strange.

Sarah was also there.

I was feeling a little strange, though, where were the teenagers, that knew less Spanish than me? And suddenly I had a sinking feeling in my stomach.

When she was talking about dropping to a lower class, had she been talking about this class?

The same teacher who’s been in my last class stepped in, I began to feel a little better.

Until she began speaking Spanish and everyone, apart from me, understood what she was saying and responded! Then it was my turn to respond…

Oh! No…
