I don’t want to mention Harry Potter again, I love the books but not the author due to her views so I will mention three other book serious I fell in love with, sorry that I don’t really have that one favourite book.
So I think these were more from when I was twelve and up if I remember correctly but while I loved a lot of books when I was younger, I don’t recall having a favourite.
I loved reading these series, Percy Jackson, Darren Shan (The demon one, not the vampire one though I did read that series too and I enjoyed it) and Animorphs.
Animorphs I fell in love with because the idea that people could turn into animals and fight against this secret mind controlling society was very cool and now that I think about it, the mind controlling aliens remind me of demon possession in a TV show I watched when I was older, called Supernatural.
Darren Shan, I loved the supernatural concept of both different series, vampires and demons and I also loved how both series felt very gritty and harsh, they also stayed out of the romance territory which I enjoyed, since at the time I found it a distraction from the plot since the stories didn’t revolve around romance but a demons invading earth problem.
Darren Shan was also not afraid to kill of its characters in brutal ways and in stories that I write sometimes I may get very brutal with the deaths and I tend to think about both those series when I do.
Percy Jackson is what ignited my interest in Greek and Roman myths and despite being more children, I do intend on reading his more resent stories at some point. I also am amazed and excited over the tv show that’s been announced and I will be watching ha. I watched the films that were made and I like a lot of Percy Jackson book fans, hated them. But I am excited for the tv show since the author was actually involved heavily this time, unlike the films where they basically ignored his suggestions.
The author even spent a very long time rewriting the script of one of the films (And as someone who has written scripts before I know how hard that is, since in my TV and Video Production Degree, I had to do screenwriting and they are hard work and take a long time! Especially a feature film which blows my mind that he did that but I suppose if it’s a about something you love, his story then you’ll do anything to have it told correctly) And even with that work he put in, they still ignored him! 👿
He warned them that the films wouldn’t do well without actually following his story correctly but they didn’t listen and what do you know, the films that people hoped would be the next big thing, flopped.
I would love to go on a big rant about the Percy Jackson films but I’ll save that for another time, you can see how much I still care about them from this, so I am very excited for the tv show! ❤️
