“What historical event fascinates you the most?”
Honestly this is very difficult for me to answer, I enjoy learning about a lot of different historical events since history interests me a lot.
So I don’t think I can pick an event that fascinates me the most.
I am honestly very interested in a a lot of events that shaped whats going on today and it often makes me wonder, what if this happened instead? And a single choice by someone, could have changed history.
For example I don’t remember when I found this out but during the cold war, there was a false alarm that the United States had launched nuclear missiles and a man called Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov, a Russian lieutenant colonel l (I did have to look up how to spell his name) might have potentially stopped a nuclear war by judging that those early nuclear warning system was false and he was correct. What would have happened if they’d responded to those false alarms? There might have been a nuclear war, very horrifying!
Or you can go down a rabbit hole wondering what if this didn’t happen? For example the start of World War one, was it preventable? What would the world be like if those world wars didn’t happen, because world war two was essentially set up by world war two, would a different conflict take its place?
And going even further back, mainly to do with my own country, England, what would have happened if Normandy hadn’t invaded us? Would another country do so instead? And would our language be even more different? How different would it be with no french influence? There are 7,000 French words in the english language. (I did look that number up, I just knew there were a lot of french words but didn’t know the exact number)
So yes, its all incredibly fascinating!
