While I have been there, it hasn’t really, it has just made things easier.

I work in retail and in my last job while I was there we got new scanners and new tills, they weren’t too different, just easier to use and made things more simple.

The scanners we used to have, where we could check the items price, if it had a discount, the stock available where these huge clunky things, though they were easier to hold.

I think I actually prefer them, the new scanners look like iPhones and they are quite slippy to hold when you are pointing them upwards to scan something, the scanning seems less reliable as well, there’s been many times I’ve needed to use it and it just doesn’t scan.

However our new tills are definitely easier to use.

While I haven’t been there, in general tech has changed retail a lot, I heard about how you used to just do the calculations yourself and as someone who is incredibly bad at maths, I’m glad we no longer have to do that and the till just tells you the change.

I do try and work it out in my head sometimes before I check or get the change, just to see if I’m right 🙂

I thankfully have not worked in shops where there are self service tills as I think if I did and I was mainly on the till, I’d constantly worry about my job as I know in some stores its become only self service tills.

I assume the people they didn’t need anymore due to the self service tills were made redundant or something?

The shop I am in right now think it is important for customers to be served by a friendly face so I am thankfully not worried about being replaced by a self service till.
