Chapter Six, Granada 2023

My most recent travel story, please sit back and relax.

“The street is really empty now, if something happens, no one is around to help you, you don’t know these people” The monster whispered as it climbed over my back like an annoying child, poking and prodding my back.

Elisa and the men had a hurried conversation back and forth in Spanish, I only recognised the Spanish words for keys and above. Though I was pleased that I had recognised any words due to the speed of the language.

By their actions and behaviour, I think they were wondering if they could get someone’s attention from above that could let them in, but I couldn’t be too sure. I stood there with my suitcase for what felt like a while, I honestly couldn’t wait to get inside, I was still sweaty from dragging my suitcase around and the sun I was not used too, but then the monster decided to switch tactic, seeing no one had robbed us yet.

“We’ll be stuck out here forever, you won’t be able to join the Spanish school because you can’t even get in, and we’ll be sent home” It chuckled, and I went to retort but thankfully for all of us, including Elisa, the large old thick wooden door was opened from the inside as someone I would get to know opened the door, saving us from the sun.

Thanking them, me and Elisa both went inside and Elisa excitedly told me that the women who’d saved us was my roommate, and she would show me too my room, and it was then I realised that my accommodation was actually inside the school which I thought was pretty cool!

The second thing I realised was not cool. Still sweaty and tired, I realised steep steps pathed the way to my new home and as my roommate, let’s call her Sarah, led the way to my room as I said goodbye to Elisa who told me the time I should come down for my first class and gave me my own set of cool looking keys, I realised that my room was on the top floor of the building.

Not wanting to be a bother and to try and make a good impression on my new roommate, I refused her offer of help when she saw me struggle to lift my suitcase up the stairs and I sucked it up but silently cried inside as we went up three floors of steep stairs.

“You could trip and fall all the way down again, that be a great first impression” My monster chuckled.

“You’re not really helping, you know?” I snapped back, since it had decided to sit on top of my suitcase and add to the weight.

“It’s not my job to help you” The monster said, smirking.

I let out a sigh as I knew truly what this monster was, but I often tried to forget it.

“Trust me, I know” Was all I could reply.
