I’ve had about five different jobs so far, hopefully I will have six jobs soon ๐
My first job was when I was sixteen, I was apart of a youth theatre group and they offered a small job handing out leaflets in town, as well as putting leaflets through peoples doors. I don’t actually remember how much I earned, it wasn’t much but for me, who had never had a job before, I got a thrill doing it, feeling like I was all grown up.
My first job, I was 21, where I actually had proper shifts and I worked there for a year and a couple of months, was a food store in my local town. It was horribly boring. I wanted to quit so bad that when I got some work experience, I lied to my parents about my work, not allowing it, so I had to quit. To be honest I hadn’t even asked my work if they would allow it or not, I just wanted to leave!
My next job a couple of years later was a job, at a marketing research company. It was a bit stressful but I hadn’t minded doing it for a while if I thought I was any good at it. It was a call centre, where we had to convince people to give us feedback on their finances, easier said that done right? So we had a lot of people on the phone, thinking we were scammers! Which we weren’t! I honestly thought I was rubbish at it, I tried my best but I couldn’t get anyone to do the survey to give us feedback and watching all my colleagues progress, who even started at the same time as me. While asking numerous times if I could receive help or more training, only to be forgotten about, I decided this was not for me and I quit after a week.
My next job was a 0 hour contract at an agency, for the railway. This one didn’t last very long either, I essentially was called in for two days of work, while trains were not working and my job was to direct passengers where to go, then they never called me in again, so I thought, well this sucks and so I quit, after a couple of months of waiting and even calling them up and asking them, if I was still employed by them!
The job I have currently is at a retail camping shop. I enjoy this more than my other jobs however I do not want to stay here. My colleagues definitely make working there for fun though, a lot of them have eccentric personalities and I think we all fit quite well together as a team. I have currently worked here for a year and about six months, while I look for a permeant job or apprenticeship. However I did say I may have a sixth job lined up but its something I plan to do, with my retail camping shop job, to earn me some extra cash, for traveling.
Now at 27 I have signed up for another 0 hour contract, this one I’ll hopefully be able to do at the same time as my retail job. It should be interesting though since it is a catering job, I have never done catering before and I have my first day, a training day tomorrow, wish me luck!
In reality the jobs I actually want to do are not in catering or in retail and I hope one day I might be able to grab hold the jobs I wish to do, either working in a museum, tourism and something to do with marketing (I have more ideas but I don’t think I’ll be able to pursue them all) or my dream job of having a online business of my own, a travel blog writer or a writer in general, would be amazing.
