Daily Prompt, Give Up My Word

Daily writing prompt
If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?

Mmmm, this is interesting! I’m not sure! I have a tendency to pick up a certain word, using it loads but then picking up a different word and using that instead.

Here is a small list of words I’ve gone through!

Oh boy! – I was a child and picked it up from my friends but didn’t use it for very long.

Oh man! – I was a child and a tomboy, who’s majority friends were boys and most boys used this at some point, so I remember specifically copying it and using it purposely to fit in better with them, until it became second nature, though I eventually stopped it, when they did.

Bloody hell! And Bloody used to empathise something – I assume I just picked this up from the environment, it is very common for this to be used in the UK and I still use this now and again but not as much as I used too.

Jeez! – This is likely from the amount of American media I used to watch and I picked it up but don’t use it as much but still now and again.

What the hell? – One again likely picked up from American media but unlike Jeez, I hardly use this anymore.

Jesus! Jesus Christ! – Again, likely picked up from American media and I still use this, very commonly too.

You alright? – Even though this being used as a greeting in the UK for a while, I only picked it up recently and found myself using it as a way to say hello, instead of using it as another way to say how are you? Which is what I used to use it for, until I found myself using it as a greeting recently.

Right now I’m using “Jesus Christ” a lot and “You alright?” A lot.

So I guess I can just give up one of those. I think I’d give up saying Jesus Christ as an explanation because it would be easy to fill the word with something else. While I was kind of proud of myself for actually using “You alright?” And it feeling natural, because I was told for so long that it is a thing brits do but I was always like, I don’t do that! Thats odd! It should be used for, are you okay or how are you?! But despite that I still felt like I wanted to join in, you know? And now I’m actually using it and I’m like yay, I can do it now too! So I don’t think I can take that away from myself! Ha!
