A long prompt for once! For some reason the prompt isn’t showing up again, the question is “What major historical events do you remember?”
(I’ll be making light out of the Queen Elizabeths 2 death a little bit, so if you are a die hard royalist, best to avoid this prompt)
This is a interesting questions in itself because I think of as history as something thats happened after like fifty years or something like that and I think everyone has a different perspective on it and what is considered history.
What I learned in history classes in school, none of us are of course old enough to remember considering we weren’t born then, so I think I’ll just name what I think will be taught in schools eventually that I remember, but I’ll probably be a lot older when it starts being taught.
Most recently Covid and the Russia and Ukraine war.
Hopefully the war won’t turn into world war three and Ukraine will have their freedom. Feels strange to be even saying that!
Unless Covid becomes more dangerous and lock downs happen every so often, then there will be a generation who never experienced the pandemic and when we all die and more years go by, the pandemic will be directly remembered by no one, which is strange to think about too.
Same with any major event really.
I bet at some point, actually more to do with the UK where I’m from, Brexit and the Scottish Referendum will also likely be taught as a part of our history, who knows maybe they’ll be a second referendum or/and even we could rejoin the EU, who knows what the future holds?
The Queens death, Elizabeth the second, also will definitely be taught in history. I’m not a royalist though I am very fascinated with their family history and love learning about that side of things. But too be very honest my main interest was wondering if we’d get a day off on her funeral, unfortunately no.
There was a running gag over here that she died in order to avoid meeting regularly with our old prime minister Liz Truss (Who only lasted 45 days as our prime minister)
I lean more on the side of we shouldn’t have a monarchy but I’m not too fussed about it, so until Charles, the new King, decides to go all full dictator monarchy on us then I’ll pick up my pitchfork, help stage a revolution and set Buckingham palace on fire but until then, I’m not too bothered.
There are plenty more events but I don’t want to go through naming them all, so I’ll just stop here.
Hope you are all well!
