Suffolk Holiday: Afterthoughts

A review of my holiday in Suffolk, my highlights and lowlights.

I live in England and in the late September I travelled to Suffolk, a county in England, near the sea. We stayed in a cottage that was about a 10-minute drive to the sea from there. Our cottage was close to this lovely pub which had very delicious food.

I went with my parents and my dog, Merlin, who is two years old and hadn’t seen the sea in ages, and he loved it. His joy on the beaches made me feel even happier about our holiday.

If you want more details about my time in Suffolk then you can visit my Instagram, where I am sharing my photos and videos of my holiday, under the name Travel100CD.

And if you want even more about my opinions at the time while I was actually on the holiday then you can visit my Suffolk Blogs, starting from Day One, click here.

Highlights

What I enjoyed the most, thinking back on our holiday and recommendations if you ever decide you want to visit Friston or near Friston in Suffolk! .

I loved walking along the beaches, we went last September, and I was expecting it to be fairly cold, but while it was windy, it wasn’t as cold as I was expecting. Our dog had a fantastic time! And it was enjoyable looking at the scenery and watching our dog bounce everywhere!

I absolutely loved the food festival we went too, at a place called Snape Maltings. There was so much to try and while there weren’t that many that had gluten-free food, they did have this lovely stall dedicated to gluten-free things.  We also found these two other stalls that did gluten-free chicken sausages that we had later on in the week and gluten-free ingredients for international style dishes, which was lovely! I definitely recommend visiting Snape Maltings if you are ever near it!

Snape Maltings in general was a very cute place and there is the River Alde next to it. We went on a boat tour, which I really enjoyed! We didn’t see many birds, but we did see a couple of Mockingjays. I also enjoyed the scenery.  Our tour guide on the boat taught us about some of the history and other interesting facts about the river.

The pub that was incredibly close to the cottage was also delicious and definitely a highlight! It is called the Old Chequers, in Friston, Suffolk. I left it a little too late when I visited, so I couldn’t try anything else on their menu apart from their delicious gluten-free beef burger! If you are ever close by in Friston, I definitely recommend this pub!

Talking about food, there was this café we found as well, in Southwold, it has gluten-free options and allowed dogs in, which was perfect for us! I loved the food once again! It is called Bread, Butter No51. Southwold was also a highlight in general, a fun pier and small, pretty shops dotted around everywhere. I only wished we had visited on a sunnier day! I definitely think this town is worth a visit! You could probably visit for most of the day and wouldn’t get bored. Though only if it’s not out of your way!

Visiting Orford Castile was also fun for me, but I think you’d only enjoy that if you enjoy castles and history! It didn’t cost that much, either! £8.50! I think you could easily spend a couple of hours in there! Fascinating! Definitely recommend it but not something you should go out of your way to do, but if you happen to be close then go for it! I will say it’s got lots of steps, so I wouldn’t recommend it to people who have a hard time going up and down stairs!

Lowlights

What are my lowlights? Now I think back on it, what didn’t I enjoy as much!

I will say I found the cottage a bit too remote for my liking, the fact that if you went outside, there wasn’t much to do, apart from go on long dog walks, and you’d have to drive to the nearest shops or anything else (Apart from one pub) was a little annoying to me.

Though if you like that type of thing then, of course, this won’t be a lowlight for you! I think when I am away on holiday I’d rather be close to locations that have a lot of activities close by, when I say close by, I mean walking distance.  Apart from the pub, we all had to drive to these places I mentioned above, well, I sat in the back of the car and my parents drove, ha.

I can’t really think of anything else I didn’t really enjoy about this holiday, I suppose the weather could have been nicer, and it was a bit too cold sometimes, but I do not have the power to change the weather even though I wish I did, ha!

Life Update: My notes on this review, I am so sorry how long it has taken, apart from being ill, I decided to only do anything on WordPress once I had finished this review, so that’s why I haven’t posted anything else on here or been interactive in a while but also while I was writing this review I kept on getting distracted. One very important big distraction this and last month has been the fact I actually managed to get a summer job, so I’ll be leaving my part-time job, for a full-time summer job soon. I am nervous, excited and hoping that it will lead to better things.

Last time I was being interactive on WordPress and posting, including my life activities such as having two different jobs, volunteering, spanish classes, social media and online courses, I don’t think I managed my time very well. So I’ll be creating my own schedule tomorrow on how to manage this better, so I can be regularly active on here once more. If you are reading this, I hope you are having a good day/night wherever you are! ❤
