Mmmm, this is interesting, I don’t think I have a favourite historical figure, I feel like there are too many to choose from.
I suppose my boring answer would be Shakespeare but his not my favourite historical figure but someone I tend to think about if I’m thinking about historical figures.
As someone who’s interested in language, which includes my own, its fascinating to me that Shakespeare contributed so massively to the English language. He contributed 1,700 words to the English language.
I think my less boring answer is Boudica, who is much less well known around the world but she is well known in English history. I did hear that some people say she didn’t exist but others disagree so I’m just going to go with the “she existed”. She was part of a tribe (Britain used to be made up of lots of tribes) that lived in Britain, during the time when the Romans took over Britain, she lead a revolt against the Romans and was largely successful until she was eventually defeated but her struggle is remembered and looked on as triumph, despite her ending.
I first learnt about Boudica when I was young, watching a british children’s history show called Horrible Histories, which is an incredibly popular children’s show and the majority of brits will know what it is or heard of it in some sort of capacity ๐ You can see one of their musicals here from YouTube, It’s about one of our kings and, I’m not a fan of our monarchy despite being interested in their history but I still loved the songs as a child and now they’re very nostalgic, you can see how children could learn facts from the songs. Horrible Histories were known for their historical accuracy.
I remember enjoying the musicals about different historical figures the most ๐
