Daily Prompt, Historical Figure

Daily writing prompt
Who is your favorite historical figure?

Mmmm, this is interesting, I don’t think I have a favourite historical figure, I feel like there are too many to choose from.

I suppose my boring answer would be Shakespeare but his not my favourite historical figure but someone I tend to think about if I’m thinking about historical figures.

As someone who’s interested in language, which includes my own, its fascinating to me that Shakespeare contributed so massively to the English language. He contributed 1,700 words to the English language.

I think my less boring answer is Boudica, who is much less well known around the world but she is well known in English history. I did hear that some people say she didn’t exist but others disagree so I’m just going to go with the “she existed”. She was part of a tribe (Britain used to be made up of lots of tribes) that lived in Britain, during the time when the Romans took over Britain, she lead a revolt against the Romans and was largely successful until she was eventually defeated but her struggle is remembered and looked on as triumph, despite her ending.

I first learnt about Boudica when I was young, watching a british children’s history show called Horrible Histories, which is an incredibly popular children’s show and the majority of brits will know what it is or heard of it in some sort of capacity ๐Ÿ™‚ You can see one of their musicals here from YouTube, It’s about one of our kings and, I’m not a fan of our monarchy despite being interested in their history but I still loved the songs as a child and now they’re very nostalgic, you can see how children could learn facts from the songs. Horrible Histories were known for their historical accuracy.

I remember enjoying the musicals about different historical figures the most ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. I don’t know Boudica. Or anything about Rome’s presence in Britain. I’ll learn more about it. In what era or year did she do this?

    1. Yeah, while I knew he contributed a lot of words, I only found out about just how many a couple of years ago, which is pretty amazing to me ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Wait!! I don’t know who is boudica but its seems interesting to me . I think I should learn about her more…. And well about shakespeare I know about him . He is also called as father of english literature .. I also read his famous book which is Hamlet . It is so amazing book … It follows the form of a “revenge tragedy” , in which the hero hamlet seeks vangeance against his father’s murderer, his auncle claudius , now the king of denmark… I also read others books of shakespeare but this one is my fav… ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I never read Hamlet but we did have to do a play to do with hamlet in our drama class which was interesting ๐Ÿ™‚

I do recall the thing we focused on the most though to do with Shakespeareโ€™s plays was Romeo and Juliet and I remember watching this modernised version of Romeo and Juliet film in class but it was very odd since the actors still spoke their original Shakespeare lines.

Shakespeare lines straight out of his plays, I donโ€™t think quite go with the 21st century ๐Ÿ˜…

    1. Yes… Romeo and juliet is also amazing… It is a tragic love story where the two main characters, Romeo and Juliet are supposed to be sworn enemies but fall in love. Due to their ‘families’ ongoing conflict , they cannot be together, so they kill themselves because they cannot cope with being separated from one another… (Lmao! I just literally give the whole story’s summary ๐Ÿ˜…) ..

  5. Shakespeare and Boudica… Interesting. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve studied both of them, and they’re both interesting in their own right. I didn’t know Horrible Histories was a show, I’ve only read some of their books. Probs because I’m American.

    1. Oh youโ€™ve studied Boudica? Cool! Sheโ€™s a lot less well known so itโ€™s nice to know, you know about her ๐Ÿ˜

Yeah I think the show was only done and released in the UK, I still watch clips of it now and again despite it being a childrenโ€™s show ha.

Iโ€™m not sure if the books or the show came first though, I think the books? Then the show was adapted from the books? I think?

But yeah itโ€™s well loved! most Brits who were kids or teens around 2009-2014 have seen the show while others not around that age group have definitely heard about it.

      1. ^_^ I’m a little older than that. I found some of the books in a thrift store (charity shop) a while back and thought they were amusing.

I studied Boudica way back when I was interested in both Roman and Celtic history. She was a part of both. ๐Ÿ™‚

      2. Itโ€™s always interesting to me to know what age groups are interested in what or what we are all exposed to. Itโ€™s fun seeing what was popular in different generations ๐Ÿ™‚
